I am potter from Monroe, NY -located in the Hudson Valley. I have been working with clay for over 25 years. Most of my functional work is wheel thrown stoneware. I am inspired by nature and traditional Japanese pottery, in both form and technique. I am particularly fond of raku firing, a technique originating in Japan, which involves removing red-hot pottery from the kiln, placing it into combustible materials, and then cooling the pieces quickly in water- the intense reduction creates beautiful colors, interesting textures, and electrifying patterns. I also like experimenting with multiple mediums such as clay, wood, and metal within one work. Creating pottery brings me peace and clarity, and inspires me to push my boundaries of creativity and ability . I teach at The Newburgh Pottery and show my work throughout the Northeast at various art and craft fairs.
